Description. Alton Baker Park, Eugene’s largest developed park, is home to dozens of recreational features and facilities serving the City of Eugene since 1959. The park is made up of two major areas: the more developed West Alton Baker Park, and the 237-acre Whilamut Natural Area.
Alton Baker Park is a 400-acre park with a concert venue, biking and walking trails, a canoe canal, a BMX track and more. It is located across from the University of Oregon and offers a variety of activities for the whole family, such as feeding ducks, running, disc golfing and picnicking.
The modern history of Alton Baker Park began in the 1950’s, when the Eugene city council decided that we needed a bigger public park for the growing city. Over the proceeding 100 years, Eugene had grown from a few hundred to around thirty five thousand people.
